No spark

My son was coming home from work today and got about ,5 miles from the house and his bike died, and would not start back. After checking that there was gas going into the carb, we removed the plug and checked it with my lawn mower and it fired good. We put everything back together and it still wouldn't start. I then suggest we do what I should have done earlier; remove the plug and check to see if it is getting fire. Bingo. The plug isn't firing. Any suggestions? I'm not much on a 2-cycle engine, esp a motorcycle. Thanks

Would be as easy as a bad spark plug wire.

So I assume the starter is cranking the engine which means you have power. I'd throw a new plug in there first even though it tested good on your lawnmower just to be on the safe side. You could try seeing if the plug wire came loose from the boot. Hold the boot and pull lightly on the wire to see if there's any movement. If there is, tighten it up.

Also check for any loose electrical connections, especially the ones going to the ignition coil.

Coil or fuses should be checked.
Obvious ditto on the plug.
Wrap around spark light tester would tell you if the wire is good or not.

Errrrrr.....The GZ isn't a two stroke engine. It's a four stroke, just like your car.

Check ignition system connecters for loose or dirty connections. Check coil and pick-up coil.

If it cranks over by pressing the button and by jumping the solonoid than I would look to a fuse or one of the dozen dumb safety/security switches. I was grounded for days due to a bad connection,I doubt a plug wire would be so drastic to go from vroom vroom to ded. I would think the plug wire would go more like vroom vroom pudda spudda ded.

I forgot to mention the standard checks. Spray contact cleaner inside the switches. (stop, ignition, clutch, etc.) Easy to do and good general mantenance.

Sorry Mainlinecoffee. I jumped back on and did not read your post prior to submitting mine. Did not mean to repeat your thoughts.
