How to check if battery is dead?

Hello,

Lately, if I don't ride my GZ for 2 or more days, it has trouble starting. It will attempt to start but will not be able to. If I jump it through my car, it starts right up. However, if I've ridden the bike earlier that day, it will start right up by itself.

I'm guessing the battery is dead and won't hold a charge? How do I check the battery to see if it is okay or needs replacing? Do I check with a multimeter?

Thanks!

Yes. Charge it up, remove the charger, let it stand for half an hour, then test the voltage across the terminals. Let us know what it reads, then we can advise you. Sounds like a duff battery though.

How old is the battery ? The average m/c battery that is not "off season" maintained by trickle charging will only last about 3 years (this is JUST an average ). Do you have a digital volt meter ? Is so , charge the battery at no more than 2 amps for no less that 15 hours. Check the voltage it needs to be about 12.7 V . You could possibly have a charging issue as well.
