tire mounting cost??

I just order an new set of tires for my bike. What can I expect to pay to have them mounted and balanced?

I pay $15.00 for installation & balance of each rim.The rims are off the bike & tires are bought at same place of installation.

It vaires a lot by location. Call around to any shops you can find regardless of brand.
Until they folded up.......the BMW dealer here had the best price.

Around here, shop labor is about $80/hr.
Front, about 1/2 hour, maybe a little more 'cause of tube.
Rear, 3/4 to an hour; more stuff to disconnect.

So.....if you bought the tires elsewhere AND take the whole bike to the shop (as opposed to just taking in the wheels), I think you might pay $80- $100 in labor.

IF you by the tires from the same shop as does the mounting, it might be somewhat less.

So im thinking i could save some money by taking the wheels off the bike myself to save some labor costs. I have removed the front wheel before, but never the rear.

Yes, sometimes a lot. Ask that when you call around.

Uh oh, was I suppose to order tubes??? I thought the tires were tubeless.

Spoked wheels always require tubes, as the air can escape at every point a spoke goes into the rim. However, you can put tubes in a tubeless tyre. You may or may not require new tubes, depending what the old ones are like, but they're cheap enough (compared to the tyres) to fit them anyway. You can always carry the old tubes in case you get a puncture on the highway, & intend to do your own repair. You'll also find a rubber (?) guard running round the rim, to protect the tube from the ends of the spokes. :2tup:

You can use tubeless tires but the RIMS require a tube and a rim strip.

It is not absolutely required to put in new tubes but most people do.

If one of the old tubes gets damaged during the change and you don't have a new one.........you are screwed.
