Broken Throttle Cable

We have a 2000 GZ250. I noticed yesterday that the 'return' throttle cable was broken. The 'main' throttle cable is working and pulling the throttle open when I twist the grip and the springs on the carb are closing the throttle when the grip in released. However the secondary cable is broken inside the sheath. Our local Suzuki dealer has closed.. I'll probably order a new cable online somewhere. Do any of you have sites you would suggest for online OE parts? Any advice on changing out the cable?

Here are the parts at Ron Ayers Motorsports. I use them for all proprietary Suzuki parts.

Throttle Cables

They are fairly easy to replace. Just uninstall the old one and reverse the procedure to install. You can also download the shop manual here on site.

I have a (single) good experience ordering from mrcycles (no family/business ties...).

Then, I would order both cables, just to make sure the "pull" one doesn't die on you next week, but it's up to you.

And, oil all (5) cables (rear brake, clutch, choke, 2 throttles) upon installation of your throttle cable(s).

I have read various things about lubing the cables... that 'oil' can collect and hold dirt but I'm not sure what else I would choose to use... graphite maybe... any suggestions?

I think the manual says plain engine oil, that's what I use. Others here swear by lighter oil, like the kind used for sewing machines and trombones.

You will find it in the manual, a good thing to download, at "periodic maintenance" (Chapter 2).

No, stay away from graphite.
Silicone or teflon spray lubes are the best.......unless they have been severly neglected, then you need penetrating oil.

ATF also works very well and is easy to find. A light sewing machine oil as mentioned is also a good choice.
