Gas Filter

I am not sure if this topic was previously posted or not... I was wondering if anyone has bothered to install a little "in-line" gas filter on their bikes. I just ordered one from JC Whitney because I ordered some other things and it was only $3.49. I ordered a regular capacity one (whatever the hell that means). Anyway, it looks kind of tight between the back of the petcock and the carburator. Looks like about 3 1/2 to 4" of gas line. I wonder if I will be able to fit that little bugger in there... Has anyone ever done this? If so, did thing fit OK? :??:

An inline gas filter is a good idea. There is also one in the gas tank itself but you can't really monitor it's condition.

Yes and yes.
HOWEVER......
You need one with a ceramic or paper filter; the screen ones are no better than what's in the tank.
You need to be careful when shortening the existing hose; there isn't much to play with.
The one I got didn't fit as tight in the hose as I thought it would; clamps are necessary.
I was not sure the clamps I got were good enough but they seem to be holding.....only 2 short rides though.

Good pic of the filter Easy. And yes those clamps should do just fine. I used less robust clamps on dirt bikes in the past with no problems. The fuel line is not pressurized and after a while the hoses will take a "set" in their position.

Keep in mind that there's not an OFF position on the petcock, so there might be some gas spillage.

It'd be a good idea to not smoke while doing it is all I'm saying.

OR... you could run it down past reserve, first, yeah? Then, there sort of IS an off position, although, there will be some spillage anyway.

Thanks. I DO like my new little Sony camera.

On the clamps: I distinctly remember that the last filter I did (YEARS ago) fit VERY shuggly into the hose. This one is on the verge of being loose.....without the clamps.

Haven't you noticed.....when you shut the engine off, the little labels on both ON and RES change to OFF ??? :shocked:

Off or not, there will be a considerable mess............unless you open the drain on the bottom of the carb to drain the bowl AND the hose before you start. Drain into a can and don't forget to PRIme when done.
