The visor crack is almost mandatory for me, when stopped. I didn't pay close enough attention to venting either and mine are barely adequate. I've heard that some helmets ($$$) vent MUCH better than others. Alas, I don't remember which ones but I would think that outside openings larger than a pencil eraser would be a good clue.
