Exhaust valve noise. How much is OK?

Just did my valves. Intake was right on spec so no changes made but the exhaust were so tight I could not even get a .002 in. Adjusted them to .004. and they are now loud. I am the second owner of this bike. When I bought it, it had 9k on it and nothing had been touched (brakes were toast bty) I had never heard any noise from the valves at all. After the adjustment the valves were quite noisy to me as compared to before. Is this normal?

I seem to recall I once rode a suzuki tu250 and it had distinctive valve chatter.

Another note. Before the valve adjustment the bike had a hard time starting and staying idle. After the adjustment the bike starts right up even without the choke.

Some valve clatter is to be expected. If the bike runs better you must have done it right. Ride on.
