Just got the GZ - Soon to be new rider
Just picked up my slightly used GZ250 last night.
I think I got a great deal - 2002, black, 1500 miles, $1800 I did all the checks recommended by the used motorcycle buying guide online (the long one by that adam guy). The first owner barely used it, it's been the practice bike for the past month for the second owner, who is getting an HD (retiree couple, long road trips) I take the MSF in a couple of weeks, then its time to practice. Sounds like ya did get a good deal.. you will enjoy the bike .. persoanally i love mine ... as to the MSF course .. the one i took was a gas .. lotsa good stuff to learn and ya get to ride alot ... i have heard of no detractors of the course, only positives and i can add mine to that... the instructors know their business and what they give you is the essential to keep you upright
If i might .. riding is all preparation, practice and paying attention to the basics.. and riding at a pace YOU are comfortable with. Ya have a good bike that does what is asked of it .. if it is with in reason

Diddo what davtnn said. Practice can't be emphasized enough! These courses are awesome and will be a tool for some time to come. I've been riding for 18 years and I just spent about 30 minutes in a neighboring parking lot last night, practicing low speed stuff. You can never be too practiced...IMO. The more you hone your skills, the safer you will be. Welcome, and wish you many safe miles. Oh yeh, you got a pretty good buy!
