Curious to the worth of one of these

Hi all, I recently just purchased one of these bikes for $300 with a description of "It needs a compression". Well, I finally got the bike, had a bit of compression, but the piston and cylinder are tore up a little.

Wondering what kind of value she'll have to her once she's running, as I'm most likely going to sell after fixing the engine.
I plan on doing some simple cosmetic repairs but the gas tank and front fender might get left as-is unless they really impact sale price.

Well, here are the pictures! Worst case, if I can't get a good sell-back price, I might chop her up for a bobber project for beach cruisin :rawk:

The one thing I will be replacing is that side cover that's missing, the rest I'm not sure about yet.

Re: Curious to the worth of one of these

The price you'll get for a used GZ250 depends on 4 main factors.

Year
Kilometres
Condition
Location

Generally, I see most GZ250s go for somewhere between 1500 and 3000. Bear in mind that the 2010 GZ250s (the last year they made them in North America) were discounted to 3000$ new. So expecting $3000 is a little high.

If there is visible damage you will have to discount the price. If it doesn't run well you will have to discount the price. If the odometer is really high (and most GZ250s probably have less than 50 000km no matter the year) you will have to discount the price. Nonetheless, if it has high kilometers but runs well and has been well looked after it should not effect the price. Although, most buyers look at the odometer even though it is not necessarily a good indication of whether the bike is in good condition.

One thing I find really effects the price is whether you are in Canada or not. It seems like the US has tons of GZ250s for under 2000$. In Canada all of them are sold for more than 3000$. I traded in mine at a dealership and got 2600$ plus tax = 2938$). The next day the dealership was selling it for 3699$.

So, if you can get the bike working and you sell in the states you could probably get somewhere between 1500 and 2500 depending on the condition.

Anybody agree?

Yeah I never see a gz go below 2300 on kijiji prices. Well I did once, then I bought the thing.
