Service manual question for needle jet installation

I'm attempting to follow the service manual's carburetor disassembly and cleaning procedures, and I'm a bit confused by the "Install the needle jet as shown" directions. The text and the photo indicate the small diameter side of the needle jet should face the main jet, and the large diameter side of the needle jet should actually be sitting in the barrel and facing the needle. Unfortunately, when I pulled the carb apart, I failed to note how it actually came out (just fell out from somewhere after I removed the main jet holder). Should the needle jet install from the main jet side or from the barrel side? The service manual removal photo kind of implies that it's removed from the barrel side, but the blown-apart OEM carb diagrams show it installing on the main jet side below the main jet holder.

Thanks!

Re: Service manual question for needle jet installation

Needle jet needs to be installed from the top side, under the plastic holder.

Re: Service manual question for needle jet installation

Thanks blaine, but I'm still confused as there's no plastic holder to be found for this thing. Just to clarify, I'm asking about the jet itself that the needle slides into rather than the needle itself (pg. 4-9 of the service manual).

Thanks!

If I understand you correctly, install from the main jet side.

Re: Service manual question for needle jet installation

Thanks much. I had originally installed it from the main jet side, but had installed it upside down - large diameter side facing the main jet. With the needle jet in backwards, the bike would idle nice but would die almost immediately with the application of the throttle. Installing the needle jet correctly (large diameter side facing the bowl) fixed this problem completely.
