Looking into a blown GZ250 near me

Hi all, I'm new here, but a bit of a gear head. I'm looking into a blown GZ250 near me - it's a 2005 for $500. Apparently it blew a connecting rod - how terminal is something like that with a GZ250? If it didn't blow a hole in the crankcase, is it mostly likely just going to need a conrod and piston? Or is the head/valves likely to get damaged with something like that? I'm not familiar with the internals of this bike yet, but am going to check out the service manual you have here and see if it gives any hints.

Thanks for looking.
Dan

The trade-in blue book for a 2008 in perfect working order is $1430. to pay $500 for a junk 2005 seems high to me. Given that it doesn't run, you don't really know for sure what else isn't working until you get past that. I would think more like $250.00. Or less.

Rod and piston slappin' around in that little space? I'm pretty sure it screwed the head and valves up. Not to mention everything else in the crankcase. Just cuz it did'nt punch a hole in the engine does'nt mean it did'nt do catastrophic damage inside.

I would'nt spend the money on it, but hey, I usually loose when I gamble.

OK, looks like I'll hold off unless I can bring him down in price. Thanks for the opinions!

It is just your basic engine. Nobody will know how serious the damage IS until you get it apart......unless you find a hole in the crankcase.

It is highly likely, IMHO, that you will NOT get away with just a rod and piston.

Have a friend that got an old church at an auction for 1.00$. $80,000 later, he decided that was the mst expensive dollar he ever spent. Just sayin'.

But, he has a nice house now.
