Rear sprocket play

Hello from Worcester Mass........I've enjoyed looking over the posts on this site for some time. I finally registered.

I do have a question about my Green Machine. She's a 2000 With just over 3000 on her. What a great find. I recently noticed a small amount of play in the rear sprocket. It goes back and fourth about a quarter inch. There is no side to side and the sprocket bolts are tight. Is there somhing in the break drum that needs tihtening or is it nomal?

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks Ray

There is supposed to be a very small amount of rotational "slop" in the rear sprocket. There is actually a rubber cushion in there and the sprocket isn't directly attached like you might think.

It is like that to help prevent shock to the chain.

Others have replaced it when removing the rear wheel for other reasons....like brakes, chain/sprocket or a tire. Probably no reason to take it apart just for that.

If you have enough patience, a search here might find more discussion on the subject.

Re: Rear sprocket play

You need to replace the cush drive rubber in the rear hub.

Go here, it's item #15.

BTW, this should be posted under troubleshooting.

That wasn't necessarily the intent of my "search" comment.
Often it is much easier to just ask a simple question; the search often is rather cumbersome.
Thus my "if you have enough patience" remark.

Sarris provided the necessary information anyway.

Welcome.
