Re: Flight in a Chevette

Hey Dupo

I had a similiar experience to your flying adventure when I was going to college.

My buddy took both my girl friend and I up for a joy flight. He let me take the controls and turn and dive and climb.

My girl friend cowered in the back seat. she used to ride with me on my motor cyle on the big hwy ( 80 mph ) but OH Boy !!!!!!!!!

I climbed too steeply and the plane stalled. Then Dropped.

Charlie my buddy took over and got us down safely ?

The motor cut-out on descent.

Ok a safe landing followed after the motor mysteriously started again.

Phew !!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Flight in a Chevette

my moto is,

Never, ever, go up in an airplane, or out in a small boat on the ocean, with only one motor.

I've done both, with poor result, never again!

I'm several kinds of mechanic and I know a bit about failure rates, Lady luck, or the lack thereof could put you in the *expected* failure percentage for thousands
of different parts.

Never again. Hell Mario Andretti lost at Indy when his distributor rotor failed!

I remember one time when Mario was about to win and a 50 cent fuse cratered. All he said was "That's racing".

Re: Flight in a Chevette

Great story, Dupo. I've been on commercial jets more times than I can count, but the only time I was going to go on a small plane like that was when a buddy of mine and me signed up to parachute out of one about 20 years ago. All I remember thinking is how small the planes looked. Turns out there were 20 mph winds and they wouldn't let us jump after about 3 hours of training for it - too dangerous of conditions for first timers, I guess. I was both relieved and disappointed at the same time, an odd sensation, but have always regretted not going back.

Keith
