Question For those of you with a Fuel Filter?

What kind of fuel filter did you use. I have looked into some riding lawnmower filters, but there really isn't any that are short enough to make that sharp turn that quick to the carb. So my question is what do you use.

I use disposable $4 inline fuel filters that you can get at almost any motorcycle shop. They are a little more than and 1.5 inches in length. I cut about and inch out of my fuel line and that left enough slack not to kink the line at any funny angles anywhere. Be sure you follow the indicator arrows showing the direction of flow. They won't work if they are installed incorrectly.

For the life of me, I can't find a photo of it. I need to repalce the one that I have so I may get a shot this evening.

Here is a prodcut photo of the exact filter that I use. I buy a handful everytime I'm in the store.

I have one that is about 2 inches long, with a ceramic filter (looks like compressed sand) but don't have it installed yet. I think it will fit but, initially at least, do NOT plan to cut OUT any of the hose 'cause it might be needed.

Check with a (gasp) motorcycle shop or a small engine repair shop......that is, a real mechanic, not something like Lowe's.

I did see one a while back that was ~1 1/2 inches long and L-shaped but it had a simple screen for a filter and those are wasted time and money.....unless you have an old bike with a rusty tank.

EDIT: Yes, that's like the one I have.

A HANDFUL ????? Do you change them once a week ?? Can you say "Overkill" ??

Well that is what I needed to know. I work on Small Engines, Lawn mowers, Chainsaws and stuff like that. That is the problem I was having, the only Lawnmower filters I could find that would be appropriate for the small space I have to work with are Like the one you were talking about. It is a little red Briggs and Stratton filter and it is just a simple screen, and that would be just a waste of time like you said.

I just didn't know if you guys had found a crossover solution to the problem or you were using a motorcycle specific filter. Thanks Jonathan and Easy, I will go grab me one of those.

And yea if you don't put that arrow in the right direction, it won't go-go very good.

I like having extras of cheap/disposable things on hand; like spark plugs, brake pads & Easyriders...

Now you've got me worried. Do I need to buy one of these?

NEED...probably not. WANT....probably so.

If you get crud in your gas tank (rust), it is MUCH easier and cheaper to change out a ~ $4 fuel filter than it is to disasemble and clean the carb. It's cheap insurance.
