A pair of common pliers would probably help. It may not be broken. Since the top was loose, the bottom end might have just jumped out of it's "hole". Try twisting the top end while pushing firmly on it; it might snap back into place. Then......it might be broken too. P.S. You can always LOOK at your posts after they are done....and delete them and start over if necessary. Once you have sent a picture up, you can't edit it IN the posted message.

Re: Dead dash
EDIT: I'm pretty sure it's broken...what is the best place online to get a replacement?
I got the other end of the cable off (by the wheel) I turned the end with a screwdriver and saw that the other end wasnt spinning and pulled out a little piece. It looks like the piece is made this way but obviously if its not tight enough to the cable, it cant spin it: Ideas on what to do next? Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Re: Dead dash
I'm not allergic to dealers, but nine times out of ten, they have to order it online anyway, so... Plus, in my case, it usually means a half hour or more each way on the freeway. I suppose that could be a plus but some days one is pressed for time.

Re: Dead dash
Six of one and half a dozen of the other. Sometimes going to the dealer is the only smart thing to do if you need a specific part that may be sort of iffy in the aftermarket. In that case the dealer has your back, has to come through cause he ordered that specific part for your specific bike. If you are looking for universal fit bits and pieces the aftermarket will definitely be cheaper 90% of the time. In my experience many dealers will gladly order aftermarket items for you Cause you ain't payin a factory price to anybody.

Recent events SHOULD make everyone think twice about this......but it probably won't. In my local area, the BMW bike shop just closed. Now BMW owners have to go close to 90 miles for an authorized shop. Except for Harley, there is only ONE other bike shop in town. Last fall they reduced their hours. From the looks of the showroom floor (the bikes sitting there haven't changed much since early spring), I'd say that they aren't doing real good at the moment. If that shop should close up, a LOT of riders will be up the proverbial creek without a boat; some of them, no doubt, are the same ones that get all of their bags, windshields, helmets, riding gear, etc. "over the net" and don't think beyond saving a few pennies.
