Need tips on selling a bike or scooter

When you are selling a bike do you allow a stranger to ride your bike? Would you buy a used bike without first riding it? I know of no dealerships that allow you to ride. Even if I got a cash deposit in hand, even for the selling price, what would be the exposure if the test rider wrecked my bike and perhaps injured himself or worse?

No problem if you have the total cash price in hand before he goes on the ride and trashes your bike, He just bought it from you, and that's the deal if your bike gets damaged. No money = no test ride. He should also come with proper gear, but if he injures himself, that's his problem.
Many dealers will let you ride a bike if you have a motorcycle endorsement on your driver's license and you seem to be serious about purchasing something, especially if you ride in there on a bike. I would never buy any bike without riding it first, testing the engine, clutch, trans, brakes, lights, tires, etc., as well as seeing how it fits and rides and how comfortable you are on it.

Re: Need tips on selling a bike or scooter

A few months ago I started this thread in the Suzuki GS Forum: http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum/sh ... 686&page=4

This forum is different than most forums. Page 1 of the thread is the most recent post to the thread. The start of the thread is on the last page. You will find my post at the bottom of page 4. We ended up getting $800 for the 1981 GS 450T. We then bought a 2000 GZ 250 which is a much better bike for my 5'1" woman to learn on.
