Backfiring
Hi, I began riding this summer on my 2002 gz250 and I love it. I then moved to the west coast of Canada with the bike. Since then, after I start the bike cold using the choke, attempt to reset the choke, and ride, the bike backfires when I shut the engine off. While I'm riding/idling at lights, it still sounds like the choke is in the same position it was when I started the bike, high revs, lots of fuel going to the engine. I took out the air filter as well and it stinks of fuel. Anyone know what I can do to fix the backfiring? Thanks a lot!

Re: Backfiring
Welcome to the forum. If sounds like your choke may be sticking. When it is idling to high,it will back fire when you shut it off.Take your choke cable off at the carb end (14mm) and make sure that the plunger is moving & the bore is clean. It is normal for the air filter to have a faint smell of fuel,if it is wet,it may need replacing. Also remove the plug on the airbox drain tube and drain any gunk out of the airbox.Make sure to replace the plug when finished or the bike will run like crap.Take a look,if it is missing, than this is your problem. Also add some SeaFoam to a tank of fuel,to help clean up any gunk in the carb. Also make sure you have no vacuum leaks.
