I bought a 2006 gz250
I bought a 2006 gz250 w/5300 miles, with a broken valve for $100. The top end was laying in pieces in a box. I believe I have all the parts, but wont know until I start putting it back together. The valve had broken and was stuck to the inside of the head about a 1/4" deep. I pulled it out and it left a small hole right beside the valve seat. I believe I can put a little JB weld to fill the hole since it is small and not too deep. I will post a pic later showing the damage to get some advice on repairing the head. I've already downloaded the manuals to get started.

Welcome to the forum.
I'd say you got a pretty good deal, assuming the lunched valve was the only problem with it. Instead of JB Weld, you may want to consider a new cylinder head. You can pick up a new cylinder head assembly from CheapCycleParts.com for less than $500. BTW, which valve was that broke?

Welcome to the forum.IMO J.B weld will not hold up under the high heat & pressures of the cylinder head. Will crumble & fall out and get into rings & bearings, waisting whats left of a low mileage engine, not to mention all your hard work and time.Maybe a machine shop can aluminum weld it as long as it's not in the combustion chamber.

Assuming there is only damage to the head I would be tempted to just get another head and assorted parts to reassemble the engine.

Welcome aboard. I agree with the others. If the JB weld works free you'll wipe out the engine. Get a new head.

If you don't want to spend the money to buy a new or good used head maybe you should consider selling it "as is" or parting it out.Either way it's worth more than you paid for it; if that's what you are intrested in.I would gladly buy it if I lived much closer. They are pretty rare around here.

As for the head, that looks more like a dent than a hole. If that's the case, you might get by with just leaving it as is. BUT..... If the valve fell into the chamber and then the piston pounded the stem against the head to make that mark........I'd be more worried about the piston than that dent. Could have damaged the bearings, bent the rod or the crank too (not likely but possible).
