runs like @#%$

So, the rain has finally stopped so I took it upon myself to go for a ride. Well it runs like #$@%. Starts right up, idols fine, starts out in first great, second fine, third starts to sputter, forth...forget about it. It sputters, jerks, bogs down, (don't think it backfires) but in general runs like crap. I am out of ideas here. I put in a new spark plug and gave it fresh gas. I am afraid to think about it but I think that maybe I have some varnish in the carb from it sitting all winter. Anyone care to share ideas? :??:

Run some "seafoam" or "berrymans B-12" through a couple of tankfulls of gas. :rawk: :2tup:

AND if you didn't already, drain the tank and float bowl.......at least the bowl. You may have some water accumulated in there. Carb cleaners won't always deal with that well.

I rode for about 10 miles when this first started happening. I can home, drained the tank and put fresh gas. I did not drain the float bowl but have gone another 60+ miles since. I will say it is better than day 1 but it sucks. I was looking into seafoam and saw on the directions to put 1oz per gallon or direct into air intake. So what do you recommend? Just put some in the tank and ride?

Put it in the tank.That way it cleans all internal jets in the carb.When put in the intake it only cleans combustion chamber.

And can be harmful to your engine if you put in too much too fast !!

Do the bowl. It's super easy and might make a big difference.
Otherwise, give the Seafoam a chance to work.
Might take a couple of tankfuls.
You can use a little more per gallon than recommended......like put in a couple of more ounces when the tank is about half full.

P.S. You are NOT using "premium" gas, are you ??

On the bottom of the carb is a little pipe sticking down (nipple). A the top of it there is a brass screw. If you loosen that brass screw, the gas in the bowl will run out through the nipple. Be prepared to catch it. There isn't much but it can cause quite a mess......and can be dangerous if you do it inside. A small length of hose can be useful in directing it into a can or similar.

While you are in that configuration, you can switch the petcock to PRIme for a few seconds to get a little extra "flush".
