Brake light

My brake light does not come on when I engage (push down on) the foot brake but it does come on with the hand brake. What/ how should I check to see if something is just loose or if I need a new bulb of some kind?

Many thanks,

Just coming out of hibernation.. GZ fired right up in MN thanks to great winterizing advice here....

Re: Brake light

Kneel down by the right foot peg.

Use right hand to work foot brake.

Look over the exhaust to muffler weld and you will see a 1" spring.

This spring pulls the brake light switch.

You can pull it more with your left hand. If the light still does work by trying this, may be a short going to the light.

Re: Brake light

There is also a screw adjustment to move the whole light switch fore and aft - I had the same problem and shifted the switch a few mm. (back I think) and now mine works. The spring was OK, sometimes the cable can stretch? a tiny bit? It seemed a little loose connected to the switch before I adjusted it.

Re: Brake light

Don't forget that if you adjust the position of the footbrake pedal, you'll also need to adjust the screw on the switch, to get the brake light working properly. the owner's manual forgets to tell you this.

That also applies if you (only) adjust the "slack nut" on the lever at the rear wheel......which may or may not require changing the pedal adjustment and the switch.

There, it only took 4 of us but I think we got that base pretty well covered.
Good teamwork.......

Anybody else; anything we missed ??
