Cylinder head temp gauge?

I've seen where the paragliding guys use a head temp gauge with the sensor being a ring that goes around the spark plug. I'm not necessarily looking for something to be permanently mounted on the bike but it would be nice to know what the cylinderhead temps are from time to time. If only I could find something like this relatively cheap. If not I guess an IR check would work.
