Re: Update

Did you have any warning on the achilles? Mine's been a-hurtin' for a few month's. I don't play tennis, but I've been playing racquetball and a little soccer.

Re: Update

Kinda a lousy situation considering you would be able to ride all year long. Heal up and get back on the bike. Take care.

I'm much younger (only 50!) Some days I feel like 18 and others, like 81, but I generally always maintain the maturity of a fourth grader. The Achilles tends to not bother me when I'm doing, but before and after. From what I've read, it's probably chronic at this point. Other things (shoulder, blown quads, tweaked neck, fried knees) have hurt worse.

Re: Update

Yup, growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional.

Re: Update

Pain is Mother Nature's way of letting you know somethings wrong, like injured. Little microscopic tears, hemmhorages, and inflammation in the tissue. Lay off for a while till it heals and the discomfort goes away. It could take a month or 6 weeks for a tendon to heal if you can wait that long. It seems like the older we get, the longer it takes.

Re: Update

I agree and that's probably what I should do. But it's tough for me to lay off completely like that. If I do, two things will happen:

1) I won't be able to cut down my food intake and I will balloon up to 190 or more. I'll have to buy big boy pants.
2) A lot of other stuff will start to hurt. When I'm driving, or sleeping, or just sitting there. I don't particularly like exercise, never did it until my mid thirties. Now it's sort of mandatory.

My current strategy is to keep at some things but not over do it. Recently I managed to fry my quads somehow (probably soccer), but after about six weeks of moderate "playing in pain" yesterday's racquetball was pain free. So I'll celebrate that until the next thing goes kaput.
