Has anyone installed a gear position display/indicator?

Hi,

Has anyone installed a gear position display/indicator on GZ250?

Thanks and Regards,
Mahesh.

Re: Has anyone installed a gear position display/indicator?

Almost all gear-indicators I've seen rely on an electrical signal to indicate the RPM and calculate the speed/rev ratio. Since the GZ doesn't have a computer onboard to send that electrical signal, the indicator you would install would have to be mechanical, which I doubt would work very well.

In essence, it's probably not worth the effort or expense, and it's not that hard to figure out what gear you're in by listening to the engine and knowing your speed. It comes with a little experience. Ride more and you'll pick it up pretty quick.

Speaking of gear positioners, I just tossed one in the garbage today. Had one on my Vstrom but it lost it's mind and would display Zero or any number from 1 to 6 whenever the mood struck it. It was doing fine till I replaced the bike battery and obviously did something bad because it went nuts after that. Gonna miss the gear indicator, it was also a gift from a friend in Europe.

Does it possibly have a "reset" of some kind? Just a thought.

I tried resetting the indicator with the bike running, not running with key on, riding, not riding, disconnected it, re-connected, no dice.........it is history now but will not be forgotten soon. Might have to break down and find another.

Hi,

I think i would take patrick_777's advice....I think it is not worth my time.

I was just looking for one to have as a nice to have feature. Otherwise no issues riding it.

Thanks and Regards,
Mahesh.

i would like to have one on my bike, it is not necessary but it would be nice. some times you may stop at a light and forget to downshift, it would be nice to know what gear so you know how many times to click down before the light turns green. or when you are in 5th gear on the highway and the engine sound like it needs to shift, when you do you realize there is no 6th gear. i constantly find my self trying to shift in to the non existent 6th gear when i hit about 65mph

i never really keep track of what gear i am in, i just click it up or down according to the sound of the engine most of the time
