Fuel not going into the carburetor

I can only get my GZ250 started if I put the fuel switch into PRI position for at least 5 seconds.

Then it runs for a couple of minutes, starts sputtering, and stops. It will not get started unless I put it into PRI again.

My motorcycle has been in storage for a while, but I was able to get it started without any problems a couple of months ago.

I added new fuel, the engine sounds better now, but the problem persists.

Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.Add some Sea Foam or Berrymans b12 to your fresh fuel and it should help.You should always put some in the tank before you store your bike.Also the tank should be full of fuel when storing,to prevent rust.

I don't know why people just don't put Stabil in the fuel at every fill up. You only use about 2 oz and it avoids many problems. It'll help keep the fuel system clean, avoid ethanol problems and, if you should happen to not be able to ride for a few weeks for some reason, will avoid the gum up problems. I put Stabil in my gas cans for the lawn equipment, my boat, my truck (which I use rarely) and my bike. I've done this for as long as I can remember. It's cheap insurance. Think of the money you can save on Seafoam, Berrymans and the time and aggravation lost.

This points to a lack of vacuum. "prime" is just an on/off switch. "run" uses the engine vacuum to open the valve, & let fuel flow. This is a safety device to make sure that fuel will not flow when the engine is shut off. First step is to check all the vacuum hoses from the petcock to the engine etc. Check that they're all there, tight, no holes, not been chewed by vermin while the bike was stored. Bet that you find the answer right there. :2tup:

The vacuum hose has no clamp on it. :cool:

Yup, it's a press fit. If the hose has dried out it will probably be porous and not create a negative pressure.
