removing generator cover cap

I'm trying to do a valve adjustment and am using the directions given in an earlier post (viewtopic.php?f=8&t=5061&hilit=valve+adjustment+to ol). The problem is that I can't remove the generator cover cap; WD-40 isn't helping. Any suggestions? Either for getting that cap off or for doing the adjustment without removing the cap?
This is my first post and my first bike - I appreciate this forum and all the help everyone gives.

I always had good luck with a small pry bar a large washer & pliers will also work.As long as the nose of the cam is 180 degrees away from the adjuster (valve fully closed) you can adjust & no need to bother with timing marks.

A US silver dollar fits that slot perfectly! Or, a 1 oz silver round will work as well. Wrap the jaws of a pair of vice-grips with tape, hold the coin with them, and turn.

What is the diameter & thickness of a silver dollar? If we know that, those of us not in America might find something the right diameter.

It is: 1.598" (or 40.6mm) in diameter with a thickness of .117" or 2.98mm.

I have all of that, except for the 365 days of riding - I get about 250 if I am lucky.

But, to stay on topic, a Canadian Maple leaf, since it is thinner, would work better if that slot were banged up and not full size!

I can't get it off either, I put it on blocks and in 5th gear, then rotate the rear wheel until the mark appears in the window under the bolt that you can loosen.
