End Cap on throttle side of handlebar

Hi, if this topic has already been addressed, please let me know where to find it. I was out riding yesterday and noticed that the rubber end cap on the throttle side of my handlebar was sticking out. It attempted to tighten the screw, but it appeared to be stripped and would not tighten. I don't know why that would be the case since I have never had any previous problems with it. Do you have any suggestions as to how I can fix it. Every time I use the throttle the end cap slips out further and I'm concerned it will eventually fall out. Thanks!

Thanks Blaine! Great info and also very informative. I didn't even realize what the piece was called or what it does. Knowledge is power lol. I appreciate your help.

Here's a few pics from a recent conversation here. That little nut on the far left is the bad guy here. Thats the one that causes trouble.

Re: End Cap on throttle side of handlebar

As always, I appreciate everyone's help. I have become a better fix it person since owning my GZ. Anyway the piece was lodged far in my handlebar and I wasn't successful in retrieving it. Ordered the replacement parts at the local Suzuki dealership. Only needed three parts which totaled $5.32. Thanks to you guys I wasn't charged an arm and leg for service since I could do it myself. Going forward I will make certain this part is tightened as part of my pre-ride inspection. Thanks again!

Rionna, be sure that you do not have the bar end snugged up real tight to the throttle grip. It will restrict the throttle movement and you will find it really annoying and dangerous. Push the bar end in until it just about touches the grip. Tighten the bar end(it may or may not draw in tighter) and check throttle movement. If the grip is touched you just loosen the bar end a smidge and wiggle it out a touch. Retighten and check for throttle movement again. The throttle should close smartly when released.

Thanks WW for the advice. I will definitely check to make sure it's not too tight. I appreciate your help!

The bar end doesn't go into the bars. The flat end just sits flush with the end of the bars, so there is really no way of slackening it off. Never had a problem with it touching the throttle, myself. (see the picture, above)
