Gulf Shores Alabama

Monday I went for a short ride (238 miles roundtrip) from Destin Florida to Gulf Shores Alabama. Made the usual detours along the way when a sign would catch my eye - this was after all an adventure. I took pictures of some of the signs showing where I was, but, when you live at the ocean you don't take many pictures of the ocean  .

Keep in mind that Florida is flat, I had almost no headwind and it was 99% highway driving... 237.9 miles on 2.82 gals of fuel = 84.36 mpg :2tup:

Here are a few pics from the ride:

These are from a scenic turnout to nowhere

This building has been open and withstood hurricanes since 1956

Looks like a good day to ride.
Thanks for the photo posting.

Good for you. You needed the ride to clear out the cobwebs and dust. Good pics too. I like the tourist trap full of goodies. Take your 2000 mile trip and buy T-shirts all the way.

I'd have to mount an extra box just for the t shirts    The seat on the GZ is NOT made for long distance rides - I have found a gel seat that I hope will make it easier. That will be ordered next payday. Not being rich really sucks

Re: Gulf Shores Alabama

Just mail the T's home every few days.

I don't know how but all of the pics of Lynda's GZ have gone into never never land. It was quite a sight when packed for a trip. There was a 28 liter top box mounted in place of the pass seat and served as an ideal backrest. Two decent sized fabric side bags and two more cheap $10 Samsonite soft luggage bags bungied on top of them. Extra riding gear, street clothes and what ever older folks usually will need was all safe and secure. A 5,000km(3,100mile)trip with no mishap except a headlight bulb dying due to vibration. Oh, and a bit of oil usage. No biggy. The bike did well on every road except long gradual climbs with a headwind. Just a little more oomph and Lynda never would have considered trading up. Overall Lynda was pleased with the GZ with it's friendly handling and a perfect fit for her size. Even the seat.

Not having met your dear bride I must assume she has a bit more padding in the seat than I O_o
On my short ride the seat was a killer

Bike seats are a fit all sort of thing that rarely satisfy. Lynda's GZ was great but her M-50 needed a little extra padding and lift for comfort. You might want to try a cheap gel pad as an experiment. A car seat gel pad is quick and easy and a jury rigged pack as a back rest might give you a direction to go.

Do you have access to a piece of sheep skin? Sheep skin works well for added comfort on a trip. Actually cooler in the heat and warmer when cold temps strike. If it packs down just brush it with a doggy brush.

Re: Gulf Shores Alabama

My old GS1000E had a sheep skin seat cover... 600 miles a day was a breeze on that thing. I'll have to look into that - would be cooler than a gel seat.

Oh yeah, a gel seat is like a frying pan when parked out in the sun. I tried to cover the seat when leaving the Vstrom in the sunshine.
