Blown engine, any hope?

Hey everyone, I'm a brand new rider and managed to blow my engine pushing my GZ250 too hard. I've broken the cam shaft, valve and a few other pieces all in the engine. Obviously I'm aware that i screwed up but I am really hoping to fix it. To order the parts and install them will not be worth it in terms of cost. Is there anywhere I can find a used engine to replace it or find cheap engine parts? I have the 2004 model, and am also not sure what other years would be compatible. Any help would be really appreciated.

Cheers,

Dan

Try to find a complete engine on eBay.

All years from 99-09 are compatible, the engine hasn't changed since then, good luck!

But if you can you should look for '04 or newer because, "Ever since 2004, the Suzuki GZ250 featured improved fuel economy as a result of a redesigned combustion chamber into a Twin Dome shape. The bike was exactly the same as the one selling today.

Re: Blown engine, any hope?

Since your bike isn't moving much right now the best thing you can do is look for a used camshaft on ebay and also in the used parts in this forum. Something similar happened to me not too long ago. I dropped a valve and it tore up my piston and head...I was able to get the head redone for $90 and a good used piston with rings for $40 and the most expensive parts were the NEW valves from RONAYERS.COM'S Fiche inventory $126 for all 4, 2 intake 2 exhaust.

ovilc88, how many miles were on that engine when you dropped a valve? Was it an intake or exhaust? Any noise in the miles leading up to it?

Re: Blown engine, any hope?

isaac - ovilc got that bike with the valve broken, he fixed it himself. From the pictures, it looks like it was an intake valve (they are the smaller ones).

Mileage is irrelevant. The valves tend to give up when adjustment of the valve clearance is a neglected maintenance item; the valve will stay open or partially open, and burn.

Re: Blown engine, any hope?

5th is right, miles are irrelevant. Its all about valve clearance maintenance.
