model years

looking at getting the wife a 250 and wonder if there is any differences in the years. other than little thing. i am looking at a 99 and a 06 is there any differences, if i was going to mod one is there a better year to get.

There was a head redesign in 05.....Other than that all years are pretty much the same.

what about the specs. like seat height. (wife is short) frame width, rear swing arm, they look the same but that doesnt mean anything

I would opt for the newer bike. There may be minor changes over the years but my main concern would be age related problems with the older bike. More wear and tear over the years could have a cumlative effect on certain parts.
Think wheel bearings, cables, bushings, seals, degrading wire harness and general corrosion.
Either bike might likely need new tires. Good time to slip in new wheel bearings while the wheels are off. Ditto for rear brake shoe inspection too.
