2006 GZ250 rear tire that seems to rub on inner fender

I am new to the board. I just purchased a used 2006 GZ250 and I have it at the shop. When I bought it, I did not look close enough at the rear tire. It appears to be rubbing on the inner fender when you go over a bump. There is a lot of clearance on the right side, but tight on the left. I heard about a TSB from some sites that say this is covered by Suzuki. Does anyone know of this problem or had this problem. Other then the tire issue, we really like the bike. If anyone is going to be buying a used GZ 250, you may want to check for this first. Wish I knew about this when I was looking at the bike. Thank You in advance. GZBrian

Welcome to the fourm.I have never heard of this problem myself.Sounds like fender is mounted off center as there is spacers on both sides. Please post outcome.GOOD-LUCK.

A voluntary recall was issued to correct the rear fender offset. I would think it is just an adjustment to the fender alignment. I would do it myself before going back to a dealer(but that's just me).

Re: 2006 GZ250 rear tire that seems to rub on inner fender

Thanks for the posts and I will post the outcome. I tried the fender spacer idea myself, but the tire still offset. I placed two spacers on the right side of the fender to move it over 3/8", but it did not seem to do much. It seems to me it might have something to do with the spacer on the axle. When I took it to the local Suzuki shop, they were puzzled as well. I know the tire sidewall has rub marks on it from hitting the round inner frame part under the fender. Kinda feel like the guy that sold it to me took me, but again I should have been more careful. Hopefully anyone else buying a used GZ250 can check for this before they buy it so they don't have the same frustration I had. I will let you know what the shop finds. Thanks, GZBrian

Yes, there is something similar; I think it is an actual recall but not sure of the model years.
I think I found it at the Suzuki web site. Your dealer should know......or be able to easily find out.

The TSB covers the 2006. We actually got a call from the dealer about it but never took it in.

Re: 2006 GZ250 rear tire that seems to rub on inner fender

I talked to my Dealer today and this was a TSB (recall) by Suzuki. Suzuki will cover the costs for them to realign the tire-fender. Not 100% sure what the fix is but my dealer said they can take care of it and it will work fine. I trust them. Also I am having the recall on the reflectors done as well. Now can't wait to get it back so we can start riding again. Dealer said they should have everything done early next week. Thank you for your information. Feeling much better now. I will post how it looks and how it runs after I get it back and ride it a bit. I should have taken a picture before and after and posted it, so other that have the same problem I had, would know what it looks like. I guess not every GZ made had this, just a couple. Nice to know Suzuki steps up to the plate. Our next bike, when we are ready, will be a brand new GZ 250. So far from the one day ride we took, the bike was AWESOME!!!!! Looking forward to more... And here's me thinking that over here, everything is mañana, mañana  At our local bike shop, if you drop the bike in at 9 am (opening time) on the agreed day, jobs are usually completed the same day.

My Dealer called me yesterday (Friday) and told me the bike was finished. We pick it up this morning. After we get it back and ride awhile, I will let you all know the final outcome. Can't wait.... GZ Brian
