Carby overflow hose....HELP PLS!!

ok, so here goes. Went out in the steel cage today with the family, brilliant sunshine when i left. Left the bike on the path out the front of the house, thinking that this wonderful day couldn't get much better. Hell, even had the sunroof of the 4wd open. Fast forward about two hours, and Melbourne cops a massive storm. Flooded roads, destroyed gardens, thankful I'm in the 4wd and not a car. Get back home to find the GZ still sitting upright, no damage from the hail (bout the same size hailstones as the top bit of your thumb) but this black tube just hanging out from the bottom of the carb. Start her up fine, sounds as good as she did yesterday when i took her for a run, thou the black tube is just hanging there. Pull out the service manual (thanks guys!) and this is the only reference i could find to it.

highlighted in red is the tube i'm talking about.
am i right on this one or is it something else? Help?

That's what it is. It runs to the bottom of the frame and points down to drain water, oil and gas out of the float bowl. Perfectly normal to be open to the ground, but I used a zip tie and kept it from laying directly on the engine (but still pointed down)...not that it will ever get hot enough to melt it, I just like it looking clean.

All carbureted bikes have them, but most are hidden better.

thanks guys! greatly appreciated! now just for a trip to the wreckers to find a replacement seat. (got pretty well ruined) You guys are awesome!

Really, from the hail? Or was your seat somewhat thrashed already...? Rain really shouldn't hurt the bike at all. I could see hail nicking up the paint though. My Dad's Vista Cruiser got nailed in Wyoming back in 1970 with golf ball sized hail (with six kids in the car!) scared the shit out of us and dinged up the tint on the moonroof. It's like raining rocks!

seat was originally in excellent condition, no rips, tears, nicks, not even rough spots. My neighbors car had the windshield smashed, and looks like someone has taken to every panel with a hammer.

shows a few pics from round Melbourne. Rain shouldn't hurt the bike, but when your talking about rocks of ice being thrown from the sky, I'd say i got off easy with just the seat ruined, no dents on the tank or elsewhere on the bike.

We've just got over cyclone Xynthia. If they name them A-Z, then Xynthia is number 24. Can't say I noticed the other 23. :??:

just got back from pulling a mates car outta a river that was once a street here in Melbourne, so very glad that I have a 4wd. Wouldn't be surprised if it gets worse again over night...Thankfully nothing of the same level of the cyclone there mate. Lived through one or two of those when was living up north in Queensland, can't say enjoyed them much.
