Salton Sea

Hi, there.
First ride report for the new year 2009.
Tried ride a place which was saved for the winter time, at here California.
Even though Sunny and warm today, there is a Santa Ana Winds around here.
Winds at the desert was pretty bad for the bikers... or for me and gz250, ha ha ha
Not many pictures today, but managed couple of them.

Salton Sea(??), yes it's a BIG BIG LAKE in the middle of deseart.
Salton, I think that lake water contains Salt.
To circle around, my guess is more than 100~150 miles.
And took about 2-3 hours to finish...
It's 65 miles speed limit, and road conditions are pretty nice to enjoy.
I hope that I could go later this spring time again...

P.S.: I took some photos with Cigarette Power Extender which I did last month, saving my GPS battery cost.....

You are proof that the GZ CAN be used as a touring bike. I think you are the GZ'er with the most miles in the last six months. Keep 'em coming!

I hope that I could do ride more often with GZ on the road...and share with you.
Actually, GZ250 is a good reliable bike for the short to mid range distance touring according to the my experiences.
I haven't tried to over 1000 miles riding yet, will do later on hopely,
frankly, don't know about long long distance tour with GZ yet.
But felt that, it would handle if bike is maintained well and wasn't stressed on.
This bike (my GZ) is little bit sensitive with temperature,
so I do try stop every hour or 100 miles whenever I do long distance riding, at least 5 min.
So, engine oil gets cooled and drip down to the bottom of engine.
I usaually find the time to stop and rest
when I have to give more foot power to the gears to up/down compare to normal engine temperature.
After couple of long distance riding,
I found that bike maintenence is the most important things for the bike,
especially bike is getting older age like mine.

Waiting for the good weather conditions...............ha ha ha.

Have you tried a different weight oil? Or full-synthetic? It should stand up to temperature changes better and not become as inviscid as regular "dino" oil.

Hi, there.
How do you know that I used "dino"... :roll:
I don't know which oil to use honestly.
I found some info on the forum about Shell-Ro..??
But couldn't find at the local auto part shop....
So, last time I bought couple of cheap ones from AutoZone, and was 10 -40 as service manual recommended.
*** I did oil change my self...............***** :whistle: :whistle:
Where can I get the Shell brand one?
And oil-weight?
Sometimes it confuses me, especially in here California, temprature here is .....
Daytime: gets over 80 easily, at desert it is going up 100 sometimes.
Night and Cold morning: sometimes get down to the 20
Advice me, please.

I don't know if you have a Wal-Mart close by, but they carry the
Shell Rotella 5W40 in Synth.

It will be in a Blue jug. I don not recall if it is 4 or 5 quarts.

I have never seen it in Quart sizes.

I just bought a single quart from wal-mart about a week ago, it was like 5.00 dollars i think.
