n00bs... clean your fuel system
I'm a total newbie to motorcycles in general. So, I took some advice and dumped about an ounce of this concentrated stuff in my fuel tank when filling up. It has made a huge, huge difference in my engine performance. It's easier to maintain highway speeds (around 72 mph). The bike seems to have a tiny bit more pep. And, I can notice a change in the sound of the engine (some of you vets will have to speculate on the cause of that).
Anyway, thanks for the advice. I'm just passing it along to other rookies... Here's what I used: http://gumout.com/ourProducts/fuelInjCarbCleaner.asp Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Re: n00bs... clean your fuel system
i have never used gum out, only one oz, is that what the instructions say, i think i remember putting one oz per gallon of gaoline when i used the b12 chem tool on my bike, don't remember for sure tho. in a car i just use the whole bottle.
i plan on getting some cleaner here next time i fill up after all the setting around over the winter. maybe i will try the gum out brand |

Just for grins, I usually give it a shot of cleaner about every 3rd-4th tank of gas. Semms to clean the system out and keep the bike running at its best.

It seems that B12 is easier to find these days than Gumout but I like both. The concentration and amount recommended should be about the same. I will admit that I just "dump some in" too; I try to estimate 3 oz for my ~3 gal. tank but I could be off by quite a bit.

Do NOT use anything plastic to measure out carb cleaner. A good carb cleaner comes in a metal can for a reason; it will EAT plastic, including plastic measuring cups. I have one that is nice and milky color on the inside now.....and that was from diesel fuel additive. If you think getting residue from dried gasoline out of a carb is hard........just try getting out residue from melted plastic out !! You need glass or metal for measuring. A glass shot glass works good.

In case anyone out there in GZ250 land didn't know it, carb cleaner will eat paint too, real quick like too.

If you do use a baby bottle, try to keep it separate from your baby.
Also you might want to wash the shot glass afterwards.
