changing my oil for the first time...

What type of oil and oil filter should I use? I ride a 2005 GZ250 with about 2300 miles on it.

Welcome. You can use any oil that is not labeled "energy conserving,"a real good oil that is reasonably priced is Shell Rotella-T.You can use the stock filter :19-0249 or the cheaper Hiflo-Filtro:HF-136.

What Blaine said. Rotella 15-40 is certified for motorcycles so no fear of the wrong oil. Probably one of the best oils for the price.

You will need 1400 mls for a oil and filter change. 2 quarts will do you with a little left over for topping up if the bike uses oil.

Re: changing my oil for the first time...

just to remove confusion if there is any.........

Oil is one of the most discussed topic. the picture that blaine used is an old style can. Rotella has changed the container design and description that is printed on the face in USA. there are 5 rotellas. I started using Rotella T6 (full synthetic) after it was approved and declared fit by the members on this forum because energy conserving, energy saving and other terms are ever changing and confusing.
