Can't open the gas cap...
Just got a GZ250. Brought it home, and for the life of me, I cannot open the gas cap. I put the key in and the key won't turn in either direction. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks. Sorry about the newbie question. The owner's manual seem to think that I should just turn the key to the right, but mine won't budge. Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Hmm... it's 90F outside... why would it be frozen? Or do you just mean 'stuck'?

Spray, wiggle, push up and down.....but don't break the key. Try a different key.....if you have one. Hope you have enough gas to ride it to a locksmith.......because that probably is the next step. And get a least one spare key while you are there.....if you don't have one. I wonder if the previous owner could have changed the ignition lock for some reason ?? I would say to try the seat lock but I don' think it has a full set of tumblers.

Re: Can't open the gas cap...
Thought id just add a note here, when i first got my GZ i tried to have extra keys made at 3 different places and couldnt. The suzuki place sent me to a certain locksmith and said they made all their keys so i went there and they made me 2 extra. I looked online for blank suzuki keys and ordering by the key number but what i found was WAY expensive. The 2 i had made were $5.00 for both. The blank for the GZ keys i got is "ilco" and has 2 numbers on it above the name "X241" and "SUZ18" maybe if anyone is in need for keys they can use this route instead of paying $25 for a blank suzuki key.

Still no luck.
I'm going to take it back to the dealer that I bought it from - let them figure it out. Hopefully I have enough gas to make it there. |

Re: Can't open the gas cap...
When I got my bike, there was a little plastic tag with the keys, with the key number on it. There's a space in the handbook to write down the number. I wonder why people don't do this? Then you can order a new key from Suzuki. I don't know how expensive this would be, but it's one way of doing it if you can't find a good locksmith locally.
