speedometer question
So, I was riding to work this morning and my speedometer stopped working. Not registering at all. Any thoughts? Ideas? Has this happened to anyone? I am in the process of checking the connections. Seems a bit loose where connects to wheel and is a bit black dirty. Is there a sensor? Does that have to be replaced or can I just shove it on better. If needs cleaning what products are safe.

Re: speedometer question
This has happened to me twice. The first time it was the cable outer that had come unscrewed from the speedo. Second time it was the inner cable that had snapped about 1" from the front wheel. It really IS as simple as that. If both ends are screwed up snug, then unscrew the cable from the front wheel, and check if the cable has snapped (which I suspect it has). If that's the problem, then replacing it (inner & outer come as one part) is a 5 minute job with one spanner (wrench). :2tup:

Re: speedometer question
No there is no sensor, it's like Alan said an inner cable that rotates inside the outer. Drives speedometer and odometer.

speedometer question
Great! Thanks!!! I like easy fixes. I didn't get a chance to look at it tidy to see if it is snapped or not. Hoping work isn't crazy tomorrow and I can take a look. Thanks for the help. I'll keep you posted
