Finally

Got it started and running!
I made sure I had spark again today and sprayed a good bit of starter fluid inside spark plug hole and it started up.

I rotated carburetor toward me to take off 4 screws at bottom and fuel Needle valve was stuck. (what ever its called) and carburetor was dry so I knew it was lack of fuel.
Primed and took a little while and I took this video. I will need to readjust the valves. Had at upper limits of range.

Put my 5amp battery back on. It starts up fine.
Now I need to tweak the carburetor.

It starts and dies. At lunch I forgot prime valve was on and air box tube was full of gas.

At least it starts.......

Considering piston/cylinder replacement or just sell as is

Been a while since i have been on this forum. This has been on my mind past year or so with my 2005 gz.

Current issue is I dont ride it much it sits in my backyard. I was once excited once I replaced headgasket and new battery. Bike wont stay idling and its not easy to start but it does. Took for short highway run a few miles and back home it seems staying idling without tending to the throttle to keep running is the issue.

Compression is good in limits last i did months ago. Been meaning to check again since head gasket leaks again and compression may have changed since.

Im between selling as is and pass on to the new owner work Ive done

or buying a decent piston/cylinder rebuild kit. Then see how bike runs.
8 years or so had bike I just dont ride anymore.

Id hate to sell. but also id hate to keep bike longer and not fix it and it just sits in backyard.

Ive seen some cheap repair kits on ebay for $100 Im leary of.

Any good quality replacement sources Id like to know.

Check compression again - if good - look for problem elsewhere. Ever adjusted valve clearances? Ever cleaned carburetor? Checked spark plug? Do diagnostics before swapping parts.
Chinese parts could be good but the risk is there. Good parts are on Partzilla.com (but pricey)
