Look at the wiring diagrams in the service manual. Some versions have a throttle position sensor. (Kalifornia?) My 2005 does not have one.

After try¡ng to get a K&N filter without success, I've modified the original air filter so the inner surface isn't covered anymore, and I removed the outter metal mesh too.

It improves the air flow over the pod filter, and isn't as noisy. I've been jetting it and it can afford a #130 main jet, a new sharper -Honda- jet needle and a #20 pilot jet, adjusting the pilot screw. It feels a bit more powerful, but I can't talk about speeds because my speedometer cable is broken. :blush:

Removing the mesh support on the outside of the filter material is NOT a good idea. Should the filter come loose at one or both ends (which is more likely since you've been hacking on it), the filter paper could be SUCKED into the intake !!!!!!

Well, don't worry, the filter is strong enough and nothing has been damaged nor become loose. Actually, I broke the mesh so it didn't pull out the glue.
It's impossible that the filter could be sucked.

Trust me it is NOT impossible.
Unlikely, maybe, but not impossible.

If you take in a lot of dust by riding on dirt OR the filter paper gets wet because you have removed the diverter, you're gonna be in BIG trouble. Over time, just the vibration could cause the folds in the paper to collapse.

Good luck with that. Let us know how much it costs you to have the damage repaired!

Good news!

Today I've received a new speedo cable (mine was broken) and I've been recarburating my bike but with more time (4 hours :cuss. I commited some mistakes at first time!, as I thought I reached the biggest main jet when the fact was that the jet needle was wrongly adjusted.

The best main jet is a #147.5 and the best pilot jet is the original (I was wrong too); just adjusting the pilot screw to 2 turns out from seat. I used the original jet needle at the 'richest' groove (do you have grooves on yours?) and that's it. Maybe I could improve the 1/4 to 3/4 throttle a bit, but it's not necessary right now.

In the same track with same conditions...
Top speed before everything: 125 km/h = 78 mph
Top speed now: 140 km/h = 87 mph

Now I really need a 16 tooth sprocket. :roll:

I have a same TPS sensor on my 2007 Gz. I try to figured out, what they does, but i stuck. I search but not found a wireing diagrom of this type, but i discovered, +2 wire go to the ignition box, and 2 is the same color what the TPS sensor use. If i pluged off the sensor, that is absolute no any efect for the bike. the idle rpm is not chancge, and the bike run the same performance. So i dont have absolute any ide what the hell is doing that sensor.

Anyway, it's not all lost. I tryed my car's big Green filter and it has more potential than the tiny filter. There are still chances.






I started removing the fuel tank too, but it's not necessary for any task about the carburetor.
