Yes and yes and NO, not when the battery is completely dead, as your experience testifies.
I suspect the same is true for the GZ, if TOTALLY dead.......but it doesn't have 1/4 the electronics and no fuel pump to run.

Lend a careful ear to the sound the starter makes when starting. The FIRST time it sounds a little bit slower than normal, start looking for a new battery.
