Wait a damn minute! If I understand what you are saying, that is a DAMN FINE idea. Definitely going to the hardware store and checking out what they have..... cuz now I have tons of options and ideas.

It's gonna take some fiddling around though to make the idea in my head work.
The 90degree L brackets would make the sissybar back be vertical or nearly so. Need to find one that has wide enough legs to drill in new holes on the upright portion. I totally see how this will work though. |

This is what I made. Used 3/8 steel rod, steel sheet (Don't remember gauge), and 3/8 square tube. Cut a design out of the sheet to look well with or without saddle bags. I also wanted a sissy bar that was easy to remove which is where the square tube comes in. I closed of the bottom and welded it to the plate. The sissy bar then just slides down into the tube and bracket for about a 5 second install or removal. At the top of the bar I welded in a "t" bracket from the hardware store so that I had something to bolt the pad to. Cost me about $24 and 3 hours.
