Looking for a sissy bar that doesn't cost an arm and a leg

I have an idea for you. Look under the 2 chrome pieces on the sides of the rear fender. There are threaded holes for Suzuki bag stays. Just bolt a couple 90 degree brackets on each side. Small stuff from a hardware. This will allow for the sissy bar to bolt to the bike. The holes may not match up perfectly but you can add a hole to the sissy bar to make it fit.

I'm working from memory here so it may be a bit of a challenge but I'm sure it is possible.

Wait a damn minute! If I understand what you are saying, that is a DAMN FINE idea. Definitely going to the hardware store and checking out what they have..... cuz now I have tons of options and ideas.

You are welcome. That is why I still hang around here. The forum has always been a wonderful place to dream up ideas and share them. Some of the easiest solutions are the most gratifying with little cost.

I just wander around a big box hardware now and again to see alternatives to shopping online with my hard earned cash.

It's gonna take some fiddling around though to make the idea in my head work.

The 90degree L brackets would make the sissybar back be vertical or nearly so. Need to find one that has wide enough legs to drill in new holes on the upright portion. I totally see how this will work though.

This is what I made. Used 3/8 steel rod, steel sheet (Don't remember gauge), and 3/8 square tube. Cut a design out of the sheet to look well with or without saddle bags. I also wanted a sissy bar that was easy to remove which is where the square tube comes in. I closed of the bottom and welded it to the plate. The sissy bar then just slides down into the tube and bracket for about a 5 second install or removal. At the top of the bar I welded in a "t" bracket from the hardware store so that I had something to bolt the pad to. Cost me about $24 and 3 hours.
