There are a large number of sub 1000 V-twins on the market. Cheaper to buy and own when you add in insurance and maintenance. Bigger means more fuel costs, bigger means more expensive tires too.
Not saying you shouldn't go bigger than 1000cc's but there are some nice lighter alternatives. I'm sure you could find a nice comfy bike without entering land yacht country.

I was lucky & bought her two seasons ago for $3000.00 & spent another $1000.00 to make her my own.

A friend of mine had an 1100. He rode it for years until a silly fool reversed across a parking lot and used the bike as a stop block. He really liked the bike too. Upgraded to a new 1300 Star and couldn't be happier.
A good used 1100 would be a treat if you can find one.

I hear ya. Looked at a fine used Vmax after I sold the Vstrom. The original 1985 Vmax set a new standard for straight line muscle bikes. I always loved the Vmax look. Woulda killed myself no doubt.
