Just curious. Where are you getting a 10 amp draw if you're just triggering the coil to close the circuit?

The circuit probably only draws 2A max inasfar as I know solenoids. The 10A fuse is just there to blow in case there is a short circuit. If you have a multimeter, try to figure out the coil resistance, then you will know for sure if 18 gauge wire is good.

THE DEED IS DONE.................. my switch idea works great and exactly as intended. Had a stiff sore back this morning so I figured it couldn't get much worse. So much for optimism and an old body. I had a bad time trying to crawl under the steering wheel and such but it worked after a lot of planning and breaks for a stand up position to ease the pain. Old age is not for wimps.
