I bought a 2006 gz250

Here are a couple more pics. After easyrider mentioned the piston, I took a closer look and you can see where the valve hit the piston. There was no damage where the imprint of the valve is ... but in the upper right side, right by the vavle impression is a small nick that is raised up a bit. Not too serious I believe, but let me know what you guys think. I also included a closer pic of the head. It is very close to where the valve seats, but just missed it. Sorry for the quality of the pics...phone pics. If you need more detail, I could get my canon out. I appreciate the advice from you guys. Thanks!

The problem isn't going to be the dent it knocked in the top of the piston, the problem is what kind of damage did it do to the lower half of your engine when that valve brought the piston to a screeching halt when it drove it into the head. So before I would buy anything for it, I would be wanting to know what kind of shape the bottom half of the engine looked like, like Easy Rider said, the crank, the piston rod, and the bearings all probably took a severe blow when that piston stopped like that.

And you are still going to have to do something about that dent it knocked in the head too, I don't think your valve is ever going to seal like that.

Probably the easiest thing to do is put it on craigslist "as is" and be done with it. What is a "fair" price for this "as is"? $400-500?

My last bike was a yamaha ES1100, but I could not pass this up.... I mean really...$100! I just wanted to sell it "as is", or fix it if I thought it wasn't going to be too much. But I don't want to half-ass fix it.
It sounds like it will be more expense than I want, so I will probably sell it "as is" and let someone who wants it fix it right.

IMO $500.00 Is a fair price.I would pay it in a heart beat.It's worth more than that if it was parted out.I think your decision to sell it rather than half-ass fix it is a very wise move.You still make a few dollars and no headaches.Good luck.
