Awesome TLC. Had a thought..............have you found any frozen links in the chain after all the years of being parked? There may also be some rollers that don't want to rotate.

I don't doubt your wife is excited and wanting to learn to ride. When Lynda got her GZ she was very happy with the size and lack of intimidation factor that other bikes possessed. The GZ was a wonderful 1st bike and allowed her to develop her skills and confidence before moving up to her Suzuki M-50.

Thanks again, guys.

So I soaked the carb in Pine Sol for 24 hours. This is the result...







This was some of the dirt in the bottom of the pan...



And the nasty gunk still suspended in the liquid...



So after drying everything, I assembled it all back together...





With a brand new battery in place, I went to crank up the bike. I got the bike to start, but it will only run with the choke on. This makes me think that a circuit is still clogged. I'm going to tear it down one more time and run a wire through all the circuits. Other than the service manual, is there a really good tech thread on here on carb rebuilds?

Did you drill out the plug covering the idle mixture screw so you could access the idle mixture needle? When the bike won't idle without the choke on is a sure sign of the idle mixture jet plugged.The plug needs to be drilled out & the mixture screw adjusted anyway as they are very lean from the factory.When the idle mixture is a little richer the bike will start easier,idle smoother,& sound better.

I sure did. I do that with every bike I've had that was carb'd. Even all the way up to 8 turns out, the bike still wouldn't idle without the choke on. I'm gonna tear into it again, I think I swapped the primary jets 1 & 2 in the wrong spots, and I also think that some of the circuits might still be clogged.

If this doesn't work, I'm just going to look for a carb from a running bike on eBay.

Got it running Friday! Didn't get to mess with it much this weekend since I went on a dual sport ride and camp.

Starter and main jets were wrong spots, primary was still a little clogged, and the idle screw wasn't adjusted correctly as per manual. Took all of 20 minutes to take it all off and clean/swap/flush and get it back on the bike. I've ridden it around the neighborhood a bit. Gonna take it to the DMV to get a tag. The one on it is from 2005! O_o

The power delivery is definitely thumper-esque. Quite a bit less power than my WR250X rev monster :poke2: but good putting around town. At 119 miles now, I've still got quite a bit of break in left to do.
