Lucky you don't live in England. Headlines in todays papers - petrol now at £1.37 per litre. Doing the conversions at today's exchange rate, that's $8.27 per U.S.gallon.

In England, diesel is more expensive than petrol. Many years ago, when diesel cars (as opposed to just lorries) became popular, the government realised that it was a milch cow & uprated the tax. Over here, diesel is the equivalent of 15 or 20 cents cheaper per litre (60 or 70 cents cheaper per American gallon?)

Yup, the government is good at taxing anything that might be to your advantage. Deisel here is a bit higher than regular fuel and has been for a lot of years. What I find really amazing is the VW deisels that are so quiet and odor free they rival some really good gas engines. That said, the buying public has a tremendous variety of fuel efficient cars now that deisel may not be a consideration for many folks. But it is all good no matter how you look at it. Deisel and gas cars are getting better and safer every year no matter what you drive off the lot.

I too have also noticed that a few years ago diesel was the cheapest, but now it is the most expensive fuel.

Re: Hellow there riders from around the world

As virtually all lorries run on diesel, this has helped push up the price of everything (food, clothing etc) that needs transporting. Just another way of the government not only getting extra tax on the fuel, but as a tax on EVERYTHING (as a percentage tax, such as English VAT at 20% of the price of the goods ((Value Added Tax for Christsake)) ) because the transported goods then cost more, due to fuel tax increase.

And don't forget, diesel is much cheaper to produce than petrol!

Re: Hellow there riders from around the world

I drive a Dodge 2500 with a Cummins diesel. Diesel here in North Carolina is over $5.00 a gallon now. I was told diesel was higher cost now that they had to substitute the sulfur that used to be added with synthetic additives for emissions reduction while keeping the upper end lubrication. If it wasn't for the damn thing getting 18-20 MPG, I'd have sold it a long time ago. But it just keeps running. I wonder how to shoe horn a diesel in a GZ frame! LOL!!!

The U.S. military has Kawasaki KLR 650 bikes with a diesel engine. And no, it is not a Cummins.
