Re: Mpg

Maybe the Powers That Be will decide to remove this twit. He contributes nothing but drivel and refuses to take a hint. His overly complicated maintenance will mislead newbies and cause them nothing but grief and $$$.

Glad to hear you are not accepting his posts as words to live by. If we want to spend that much time wrenching on bikes we should work in a shop.

set ex valves at .9 to 1.0mm intake .05mm open the air mix on carb change oil & filter
every 200 mi. depends on how you ride 80k on mine she is 13.5yrs ols new condition
I'd try one or a couple things at a time then see the results.
I got 57mpg on two tanks commuting to work. 16T sprocket I got 65mpg on 87 miles so far on the next tank.
Getting 80+mpg I think its worth it to an extent............The extent of your cash and willingness/time to do maintenance a LOT more often.

Ok, I'm going to go into depth about this to see if it would be cost effective to change your oil alone to get 80-100mpg. If that alone would work, keeping that in mind.
I ride 44miles round trip when I ride to work. So on this OCD schedule I would be changing the oil and filter, air filter every 4 or 5 days!? About as often as filling up the tank?

I would try the DR9EA plug. See how it runs and clean the air filter a little more often until it reaches manual changing time.
Changing oil is everybody's own preference.
Just buying a quart of oil costs about $10 for synthetic and $6 or less for regular or cheaper brand.
The next week I'd adjust the valves to that spec. and see the results from the change alone.

As far as changing the oil. I'd change the oil at start of the season March/May and the end of the season here it is right around now Oct-Nov. So for me its about 5 months maybe, and say I have good weather for 20 work days a month. (That would be a dream!)
Comes to 100 days going about 44miles = 4,400 miles So changing the oil at least once or twice is what I'd do and expect once a year even with these hypothetical miles.

I would be changing the oil and filter 22 TIMES! So that would cost at least $200-330 for oil alone!
At 65mpg it would be 68 gallons of gas say it costs $3.50. That would be $238 for 4,400 miles
Say we spend $50 on 2 oil changes with new oil filters on this one. $288

At 80mpg it would be 55 gallons gasoline and would cost $192.5 in gas money
We spent $200-330 for oil changes. Costing $392.5-$522+ on oil/gas costs total. So we are clearly wasting money and oil on this one. Maybe the hidden savings is engine life??? We could save up money on a new engine not spending the extra money for oil, waiting on the engine to blow in the meantime.

Ok, now for the 100mpg! It would be only 44 gallons gas. Costing $154
Same $200-$330 oil cost. For a $354-$484

So as far as costs go, not even going to figure the cost of new air filters or oil filters or spark plugs or that valve adjustment cost (not DIY). So its up to you, in this 4,400 mile scenario you can spend: $288+ at 65mpg 68 gallons gas, 3 quarts oil or 0.75 GALLONS OIL
$392-$522 at 80mpg OR 55 gallons gas, 33 quarts oil or 8.25 GALLONS OIL
$354-$484 at 100 mpg 44 gallons gas, 33 quarts oil or 8.25 GALLONS OIL
This shows its NOT WORTH IT for the money.
But if the oil changes or cost could be lowered it could be cost savy.
I do admire anybody who gets better gas mileage than me.

Have you still not got it? The guy you're making comparisons to, was straight out of the funny farm. A troll. A loser who probably never owned a bike in his life. Someone who spouted utter gibberish, just so people would respond to his lunatic ravings, and make him feel clever for the first time in his life. Banning him from the site was the only way to stop his inane rubbish. O_o :puke:
