Fuel valve

I have a 2000 Suzuki 250 GZ and I'm new to riding. Unfortunately, I don't have the manual. I noticed the fuel value switch on my bike seems to have 4 settings (I'm including the positions as they would appear on a clock):

On (at 6 o'clock)
Off (at 9)
Fuel (at 5)
Res (at 12)

What should I use each of these settings for?

Searching around online, I'm seeing a lot of references to "PRI", but I don't seem to have this.

Any suggestions would be very helpful!

The petcock on my 2009 only has three settings. On, Prime, and Reserve. Does your petcock have a vacuum tube on the back of it going to the carburetor? Mine does not allow fuel to flow to the carburetor in the On and Reserve settings unless the carburetor is asking for fuel. If it is set to Prime, then fuel will flow to the carburetor whether the engine is running or not. This setting should only be used if the bike has been sitting for a while when starting and then turned to On once the bike has started.

Being an older bike, I am assuming that your petcock is not vacuum actuated, but I am unclear about that. Perhaps someone with a bike closer in manufacturing date can chime in on that.

You can download the manuals on this forum. Go to search bar at the top and type in manual and then scroll down to Dupo's post.

FYI: From what I have seen the OEM petcock have always been the same (on, primary, reserve). Looks like it was replaced. But if the bike runs ok I would not worry about it.

But do download the manuals, they are a world of info!
