Danny, GIPRO makes a gear indicator for carb equiped bikes. I think they have one for your bike.

That's one thing my GZ 125hs has. But I need to clean it as it does not show 4th and 5th gear. I have just ordered a right angle ratchet screwdriver to get out the modual as it is slightly recessed under the clutch housing.

A shift indicator setup can be found on eBay, it works by installing magnets on the shift lever and on the case behind the shift lever, and it sends a signal to the gear indicator light mounted on your handlebars. It’s just a simple magnetic system like those that are used on doors and windows for security systems same principle, magnet passes sensors and sends signal to display unit. There are several different models some go up to 8 some to only 5. I use one that registers 6 gears, of course my GZ250 only has five gears but it has worked great for my bike. Also you can get a digital RPM gauge for the GZ250 as well. Wire wrapped around coil wire or plug wire sends signal to unit mounted on handlebars

eBay has several different kinds of shift indicator units, they work off magnetic strips mounted on shift lever and and a sensor mounted behind the shift lever on the side of the case. They have RPM gauges as well that work by wrapping a wire around the coil wire or plug wire and that sends a signal to receiving unit on handlebars. I have a shift indicator on my GZ250 that I purchased on eBay and it works pretty good for me, I just have to keep a eye on the strips mounted on shift lever and case. Just ask for shift indicator for motorcycle there all universal and will work on any thing that shifts gears. Comes with complete unit plus instructions on how to hook it up

Exactly, and also, just like with my tach (it still works), the first trip you almost drive off the road staring at it, and after that, you don't care anymore. (Doesn't mean you shouldn't do it - do whatever you want with your bike.)
