Starting and running issues

Hello all, I purchased a 2014 GZ250 from a friend that had a few issues. I was able to start the bike and let it idle with the choke/enrichner on but when I shut off the enrichner the engine would slowly rev down and eventual die (about 30-45 seconds). It would also die if the throttle was opened at all. I removed the carb and cleaned it out pretty well. Drilled out the air mix screw cap and cleaned that area as well, it seemed gummed up (I could not screw it in before cleaning) but I reset it at two rotations out which seemed the same as factory set. After I got it all back together it wont start at all. Turns over fine, there is spark and the carb fills with fuel. I did notice that the o-ring around the base of the main jet seemed pretty chewed up, other then that, everything appeared to be in good condition. I did have the air box detached but I wouldn't think that would be an issue. Any ideas? Thanks.

Reattach the air box, it kind of works as a natural 'choke'. Its designed to restrict the air a little more and the Jets are sized to accommodate. There is too much air flowing through there for the Jets to keep up. Carbs are all about vacuum. I have been learning a great deal while working on my son's bikes. Once you try that, if you still have issues, come back and explain. You say it wont start, does it turnover or just click? Does it fire and putter out or just go ren ren ren ren? Your idle screw may need to be tightened to open the bitterfly valve a little more exposing the idle circuit of the carb. If you remove the carb you can see little tiny holes behind the starter circuit(pilot sxrew) the valve should be just slightly past the hole exposing a small out of it. If I am incorrect on this, site me please.

I re-attached the air box and no difference was observed. The engine turns over but does not start or sputter. The idle screw should be fine as it did start before I removed the carb and I made no adjustment to it.

Completely sure you have fuel? Is your float height correct? Bowl primed? Youre certain all the curcuits are clear, primarily the starter circuit? Are you able to check the voltage of the battery? Perhaps its too weak to start it? Try push starting it. I went throigh several avenues on my kids bike before i discovered massive compression loss due to incorrext head gasket installed by previous owner.
